Kappa Search Inc. is a Chicago recruiting firm that specializes in engineering, manufacturing, operations and supply chain recruitment and placement. We are currently recruiting for a Sr. Buyer/Planer as follows:

Senior Planner/Buyer Responsibilities:

Negotiate with selected suppliers and source new materials and suppliers

Establish strategic, mutually beneficial supplier relationships to secure the best possible quality and service at the lowest total cost

Monitor supplier performance against performance criteria and to ensure continuous improvement.

Prioritizes supply requirements, vendor and plant capacities, and manufacturing efficiencies so as to maintain a current schedule, low cost, timely delivery and adequate inventory levels.

Initiates and monitors release schedules for vendor supplied items to ensure timely delivery.

Determines and reviews contract quantities and places purchase orders using prices and terms negotiated by PA.

Follows inventory guidelines to determine appropriate inventory levels of items under their jurisdiction to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization.

Identifies opportunities and recommends and implements action for improvement, leading project teams where required.

Initiates, develops and maintains effective communication with all levels inside and outside of the organization on activities that may impact the Master Production Schedule, working through the customer service representative where appropriate.

Maintains ERP system planning parameters including safety stocks, minimum orders, supplier codes, planned lead times, and ABC codes  through the use of SQL queries, Excel analysis, and data CIM-load requests.

Runs and reviews periodic reports and monitors/updates the system to ensure data integrity.

Develops and maintains inventory processes in coordination with other functional areas, providing status reports as necessary.



  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in Supply Chain, Materials Management or a technical field
  • 5 + years of planning, production and materials management experience, or equivalent in an MRP II environment.
  • APICS certification strongly preferred.
  • Microsoft Excel and Word preferred.
  • Access, and Oracle/SQL a plus.
